I guess it feels like there's a bit more to it than that, in that he's speaking out against people on "his side" to defend institution which has just delivered an outcome which (I assume) he disagrees with, because the institution itself is important. And I think that shows a greater integrity than that implied by stopped clocks, which at least hints at finding oneself on the right side of history merely because it happens to align with ones own interests.

Yeah this was my reaction too, and I think that means it's actually really good that Rees-Mogg is agreeing with us.

Yes. He clearly believes that jury trials are A Good Thing, and the fact that they sometimes produce results he disagrees with is a price worth paying.
