This has pretty much always been my experience with Jesuits, so I wouldn't be at all surprised if the current Pope was quietly in favour of such an interpretation.
The course is in English, but my plan is to conduct as much as possible of the rest of my life in French (and when I'm a bit further past 'complete beginner' in Dutch). I can manage to follow sermons (and speeches, lectures, and so on), but it's amazing how much more difficult it gets when there's background noise and people talking back and forth and so on. I still find films and TV pretty challenging, but I'll keep working on it.
