New contract
Mar. 11th, 2021 12:09 pmThe faff around my new contract finally got resolved by Tuesday of last week, so I'm now sufficiently far into the work to have a decent sense of what's going on and what I need to do. I'm enjoying it so far. It's a nicely well-defined piece of consultancy where my responsibilities are quite specific, which is a nice change of pace from the rather hectic plate-spinning of my last role. But it's interesting and makes good use of my expertise, and everyone seems friendly and appreciative, which is always nice.
I am having to occasionally remind myself that my brief is to identify risks and problems and make recommendations for how to approach solving them, and not to completely fix every possible issue with the institution's data single-handed. I would be quite pleased and not entirely surprised though if, having identified various things that need doing, I then get asked to sign up for another contract for actually doing some of them.
