Happy birthday to me!
Jul. 24th, 2021 09:08 amI got an early gift late on Thursday night of a negative PCR result, which meant that I no longer felt the need to isolate from my cohabitants. Being able to kiss my husband and dine as a family made yesterday a lot more pleasant. Various plans that were put on hold have been or are in the process of being rearranged, and I think perhaps I will have a big celebration on my Life, the Universe and Everything birthday instead.
I have been given some excellent and very me-shaped gifts.
obandsoller gave me a set of silver-grey silk bedlinen, which feels like absolute heaven, and The Food Lab, a very sciency/geeky cookbook. My sisters clubbed together to get me my second ever piece of Le Creuset cookware - a cast iron saucepan, which will no doubt give me endless pleasure. (My first piece was a griddle pan from my parents for my last milestone birthday, and cooking with that still makes me very happy.)
atreic and
emperor sent me a box of not-dark vegan chocolates, which are very exciting, as my sweet tooth only seems to get sweeter with age. I am resisting the temptation to scarf them all for breakfast, but the one I did have was delicious.
sfred and
djm4 sent a really beautiful card with an illustration of 'Fashions for Summer 1834', with lots of dandies and ladies in fabulous Georgian outfits against a backdrop of the Royal Surrey Zoological Gardens. It is sufficiently gorgeous that I think I'm going to try and frame or mount it so I can keep it as a print. My parents got me sock yarn in a wide range of colours, and some really pretty stitch markers. They and my aunt also sent me some cash, which I plan on putting towards a second set of silk bedlinen, since I don't think I want to go back to slumming it with cotton whilst the first set is being laundered ;)
I am planning on a fairly quiet day doing pretty much entirely things I enjoy. I shall do some reading and preparation for my Bible Study group this week, watch some Star Trek with Ramesh, read my new cookbook, and maybe do a bit of crochet. I feel quite content with this plan.
