Playing catch up, Cinnamon Club
Sep. 16th, 2023 03:42 pmIt's nearly three months now since I finished my A-levels and Spiritual Direction course, and I still feel as though I'm playing catch up on all the things that I'd been putting on hold until after then. Admittedly it probably hasn't helped with the catching up that I planned a retreat for immediately afterwards, and a two week holiday just now, and also had surgery and recovery in the middle of it, but I really needed the breaks, and obviously I wasn't going to delay surgery. I'm in the middle of a pretty busy period at work, so there isn't much in the way of slack there. In theory I should be dropping down to three days/week at the end of October, so I really hope that after that I should be able to get to the point when I feel on top of things, and then have some rest that feels a bit more restful, because I'm not painfully conscious of unmet responsibilities hanging over me...
Last week it was Ramesh's birthday, and we went to the Cinnamon Club which was excellent. I was particularly taken with the lamb mille-feuille (whilst it was at most cinq-feuille, the pastry was wonderfully crisp, and the lamb was tender and spiced to perfection). One slightly negative point was that they wouldn't do us half a wine flight each (the veggie and non-veggie tasting menus had different pairings, so we couldn't just share one), and the waiter insisted that they were all small glasses. Reader, they were not small glasses. I left about half of most of them and still got a bit of a headache on the way home, although it did clear up with a couple of pints of water. Ramesh was a bit less restrained, and paid for it the next day...
