My mum has periods of using the "your friend" about my partner and I did pull her up on it because she'd never do it about my younger sister's husband and it's a bad habit. My mum is reasonably cluebattable and seems to have stopped doing it, but does forget (scatty dyslexic) and I blame the too many Daily Mail reading Tories she hangs out with... I think you did the right thing leaving it for this event with Ramesh's mum tho, there are definitely Just Times to Let Things Go... I hope it doesn't happen again, and if it does, you can challenge and get an ok response.
