As I mentioned briefly, I think the readthrough of Love's Labour's Lost last weekend went pretty well, so I'm going to organise another this weekend. This time of a couple of radio play adaptations of Neil Gaiman stories, Stardust and "How the Marquis got his Coat Back"
If you are theoretically interested in this kind of socialising but nervous because you've never done it before, you are welcome to come and just watch/listen, or ask for a very small part to dip your toe in the water (but also just to jump straight in if you prefer - it's all very friendly and low pressure).
Okay, so Stardust is a fairytale in two episodes each about an hour long. There's a partial list of characters on wikipedia but it's inexplicably missing the best part (which is obviously Captain Shakespeare). There's a more detailed list on TV Tropes but consider yourself warned for a)spoilers, and b)falling into a TV Tropes hole...
How the Marquis Got His Coat Back is a short (about 45m) sequel to Neverwhere, staring the Marquis de Carabas. There's a list of characters here, but I haven't been able to find much more detail about who they are, although some of them will be familiar if you've read/seen/listened to Neverwhere.
These being radio scripts, they've got quite a lot of sound effects written in. If you would be interested in being in charge of making sound effects, either in addition to or instead of having a part(s) to play, then that would be useful info. Other things that would be useful to know are:
- if you would like to come for just Stardust or just How the Marquis Got His Coat Back
- particular parts you would or would not like to play
- types of parts you like or dislike (e.g. funny/serious, good/evil/ambiguous, clever/not-so-clever, gender, age, class, with distinctive accents, who sing &c &c)
- how much you would like to have to do, and preferences between multiple small parts vs one larger one)
- anything else you think might be relevant
