I didn't post an update at the end of February, partly because my retreat caused me to rethink what the goals should be, and I wanted to incorporate that which made it a bit more thinky, and partly because for various reasons I had a combination of an awful lot to do and lower than usual executive function in early March, and then the rapidly changing CV situation meant that what my goals ought to be changed again, and then it was getting towards the end of March and I figured I might as well just wait.
Anyway... I'm just going to review the goals for the quarter as usual, but acknowledge that circumstances have lead to quite a lot of changes.
Maintenance goals
Quarterly spending below £X (3% lower than last quarter's target) - It was looking as though I was going to be comfortably under target even before we started getting restricted. Since then, unsurprisingly, I've underspent on my dining out and theatre and travel budgets. I spent a chunk of cash from my business account on a new chair and webcam to facilitate working from home - that doesn't count as part of my discretionary spending target, but even if it did I'd be well under.
Run at least 195 km (same as last quarter) - Done - 198.16, although I might go for another run tomorrow.
Do at least one session (at least 10 min) of core strengthening exercise each week (easier than last quarter) - yeah, this hasn't come even close to happening, even though it was an easier goal than the previous quarter. I should stop thinking of this as a maintenance goal, because that should be things that are already happening, and instead developing at habit of at least this much should be fairly high on my list of additional goals.
Additional goals (in rough order of priority)
Start therapy, codify what I'm hoping to achieve with it, and make a plan for getting there - Done, and made progress towards the plan. I think next quarter I want to make sure that I'm keeping good notes so that I maximise the benefits of the sessions.
Organise Thronescamp - I'm going to call this done. I hadn't completely finished the organisation at the point at which we decided to postpone, but we're nearly there, so it should be reasonably straightforward to make it happen once we're back to something a bit more like normal.
Practice french for at least half an hour 6 days/week. Include at least 13 sessions of speaking - This was going really well until my retreat. I was doing something every day, usually considerably more than half an hour, and I'd had 10 conversation classes. During my retreat I made the decision that I should be putting less pressure on myself to achieve things, and that this was something that I could drop for the time being. I've actually still been doing a moderate amount of practice since then, but only when I felt like it, rather than
Invoice at least £Y - Not quite. I missed a few days in January and nearly two weeks of February, so both those invoices were a bit light, but I got loads done in March, so that made up most of it, and I ended up at 95% of target, which I'm reasonably happy with.
Start singing lessons, and work out with the teacher what's the minimal practice regime that will mean I'm not wasting my time and money, then stick to that - this was going quite well, but obviously now my lessons are on hold. I'm going to try and make sure I do still do some singing, but I'll have to give some thought as to how to structure it.
Private goal - Abandoned in January
Host at least three dinner parties - I managed one, and then realised that Lent was about to start, which is not a good time for dinner parties, and then they came off the table altogether
Finish writing up honeymoon - very little progress. I did make a start on the next installment, but like the French practice, I decided this was something to stop pressuring myself over after my retreat
So 4/11 achieved, one very close, three with considerable progress and three completely failed/abandoned. That's less good than the previous quarter, but mostly that's due to deliberate choices to change my priorities, and one way and another there's been quite a lot of other stuff going on the last few months, so I'm not too worried about it. I need to give some fairly careful thought to what my goals for Q2 should look like though - in this strange new world I want to make sure that I do have some structure in my life, but I also want to be able to respond to things changing.
