I've been far too busy recently, with a mixture of tedious responsibilities and fun stuff, and haven't been posting because I keep thinking that I need to fill everyone in on everything that's been happening, which I don't have time to do, and thus I don't post, and the list of things I need to catch up about gets longer, and so on and so on....
But that's left me feeling a bit socially isolated - I've still been reading posts, and occasionally commenting, but not as much as I'd like, so it doesn't feel terribly interactive. I almost miss Facebook with its leanings towards short posts, and its likes and other one-click responses. Not enough to actually open a new account there mind.
I'm back to working full time again, for pretty much the first time since March 2020, which is a bit of a shock to the system. I'm not sure how long that's going to continue for - the shorter of my current contracts runs until the end of October, but I think it's moderately likely to be extended, and even if it doesn't I've got to the point where I'm frequently turning work away, so I suspect it'll be quite easy to just fill in the gaps with new work unless I'm pretty disciplined. It's a nice problem to have, but I would really rather be working 4 days/week, particularly with all the other stuff going on.
Mother Alice's maternity leave starts at the end of the month, so we're pretty flat out at the moment making sure that everything is as up to date as possible, and everything has been handed over before she goes, and of course the demands there are only going to increase when she's actually not there to keep things off my desk.
Encounter starts up again in a couple of weeks as well, and whilst I'm very much looking forward to seeing everyone again and continuing this strand of learning and development, I'm a little trepidatious about how it's all going to fit in.
But - lots of fun things have been happening as well. I went to a Shrewsbury Folk Festival with
the_alchemist and
themidnightgirl, and off the back of that started playing my recorder again. I've been really enjoying my Bible Study group and the spin-off reading that I've been doing. I'm crocheting a giant blanket which is giving me a lot of pleasure.
obandsoller and I went out for a fancy vegan tasting menu for my birthday, and afternoon tea for our wedding anniversary. I might try to write about some of these in more detail later.
And there are more fun plans in the pipeline - this weekend includes a visiting
smhwpf, a theatre trip to see Leopoldstadt, and another tasting menu for Ramesh's birthday. The weekend after I'm going to Northampton for
hjdoom's confirmation, and then a fortnight later I'm visiting
bunnypip, M, and H in Bedford. So yes, lots of fun things going on, but I am feeling even more than usually like I have Taken On Too Much(tm).
How are all of you lovely people?
