Last night
obandsoller & I went to see the new revival of Legally Blonde! The Musical at Regents Park Open Air Theatre. I really really enjoyed it. I had a hyperfixation on the Broadway version for a while, so knew the songs and much of the script pretty much backwards. They'd made a few relatively minor changes to the script and lyrics - mostly making things more inclusive in a way that would have slipped under the radar in 2007 (I particularly appreciated that the "Bend and snap" cheerleading move is now 99% effective on straight and bi men), and incorporating more references to social media and related technologies.
The more fundamental change however was through the casting, which was made significantly more diverse, and in particular included a fat woman of colour as the lead, which I was absolutely delighted by - there's a great interview with her here.
A++ would recommend. It's playing until 2nd July, and there are tickets left, but not loads.
