I had a particularly lovely day this Saturday.
bella_luugosi and
fluffymark were in town to see Die Walküre, so
robert_jones and I decided to join them, and because the opera started at 17.30 and ran right through any sensible dinner time, we thought that afternoon tea would be a good way to start.
We went to L'oscar, which I was quite pleased with as a find, as it managed to combine posh hotel ambiance with very reasonable prices. I had their house blend black tea, which was very fruity and I enjoyed a great deal. My favourite sandwich was the egg and truffle, but that may just be because I would add truffle to literally everything if I could get away with it. The scones were served with lemon curd as well as the usual clotted cream and raspberry jam, which I wasn't entirely convinced by, but there was enough cream and jam that I could ignore it after the first bite, and leave it to those as liked it. The cakes were ridiculously elaborate, even by afternoon tea standards:

Clockwise from top: Opera Pina Colada (pistachio, coconut, vanilla, banana), L'oscar Chapelle (tonka, mango, passion fruit, mascarpone), and La Vie en Rose (strawberry, rose, lychee, lime)
And now I have overrun my ten minute timer, so I shall have to tell you about the opera tomorrow...
