So on the one hand, I had my last exam a fortnight ago, and the final bit of my Spiritual Direction course this Saturday, which have been by far the biggest demands on my time recently, so that should mean I now have lots of free time, right? Yeah... not so much. There's a fair bit more to do at church at the moment, because Mthr Alice has just gone on maternity leave again, and although we are getting full time cover, he already had some summer holiday plans, so isn't starting in earnest until the end of July.

And also there's a long list of things that I'd been putting off "until after I've finished Encounter and my A-levels." And also there's a few bits last bits and pieces of admin and stuff that I need to do to wrap them up. And also I've got surgery this Saturday, which means that I'm likely to have rather limited capacity for a little while, so I should get as much done as possible beforehand. And also... And also... On the plus side, surgery recovery will force me to actually take some rest, which might be the only way to make that happen.

I did go on retreat the weekend before last, but only for four days, as that was the longest one available at a date that I could make work, and having gotten used to 6-8 days, it did feel a little bit as though I was only really getting started. Also, whilst the retreat itself was restful, I had made the possibly foolish decision to cycle from the train station to the retreat centre and back again. Google claimed that the journey was mostly flat, which I suppose is true in a way - the first seven miles were pretty flat, which was most of the journey, but the last mile and a half was very steep uphill. Oh well, he thought, at least the journey back will be a lot more enjoyable, especially as I was able to arrange for someone travelling in a taxi to take my luggage. Which was a great plan, except then I got a slow puncture and didn't have a pump or a repair kit on me, so had to cycle much of the route on a flat tire, giving me the very strong feeling that it was, in fact, uphill both ways.

In better news, the final bit of our downstairs remodel - the fitting of bookcases - was completed just before I went away, and they are absolutely joyful.

Getting them made was quite a lot of faff, but definitely worth it. In my naïvety I had thought that an entire six metre wall of bookshelves, all floor to ceiling except a gap for the clavinova, would suffice to hold all of our books. Oh, you sweet summer child, Sebastian. It does suffice to hold all of our sheet music, poetry, plays, graphic novels, and non-fiction, with a couple of shelves of board games, and a little bit of space for those sections to grow, but apparently the fiction section is going to remain in the spare room.
