Seeing people and missing people

I met my nephew, Alex! This was pretty exciting. He's a few months old now, but my sister and her husband live in Canada, so we've been limited to adorable photos and the occasional Zoom. Once Canada got added to the green list Sarah booked pretty much the first flight that she could. I'm generally not very comfortable with small children, so I was quite taken aback by how absolutely and completely I have fallen in love with Alex. Biology is weird.

Last week I had dinner with themidnightgirl at Fish, Wings & Tings in Brixton. She had cod fritters followed by mutton curry, and I had king prawns followed by jerk chicken. Apart from the prawn dipping sauce it was less explosively hot than I was expecting, but it was all really really good. Possibly the star of the meal was the homemade ginger beer, but everything was great, and very good value. The restaurant being only just down the road from Zoë's house meant that we could retire there afterwards, so I got to spend a couple of hours playing with Florizel - another creature with whom I am inexplicably smitten, despite generally not being all that keen on dogs. I also managed to catch up briefly with the_alchemist and minihedgehog who arrived shortly before I was leaving.

The following weekend I was supposed to be going to Bedford to visit bunnypip, cuddlyviking & family, but sadly K & H caught a cold, and whilst it definitely wasn't the plague, a combination of an abundance of caution and them not really feeling well enough for socialising meant that we had to cancel. I would like this stupid virus to stop getting in the way of me seeing my loved ones :/

Mother Alice is now officially on maternity leave. I hope I manage to stay broadly on top of things...
