wildeabandon: writing an appointment in a diary (scheduling)
Further to the last post, I am trying to remind myself that even with reduced executive function I have managed to achieve quite a bit of stuff in the last few weeks. Cheerleading and affirming comments would be appreciated :)
  • Organised a Thronescamp
  • Organised a group trip to see Richard II on Saturday
  • Organised [personal profile] leonato's birthday weekend
  • Run a training session for new servers
  • Planned and led three singing rehearsals
  • Run a couple of hundred miles, including knocking a minute and a half off my Parkrun PB
  • Done a bunch of wedding organisation
  • Delivered the church annual accounts
  • Made a plan and booked flights to go and visit [personal profile] danohu next month
  • Done this whilst travelling up and down the country every week, and mostly managing not to leave anything vital at the wrong end

I am still managing to come up with all the reasons why this is insufficient or doesn't count, but I mostly think this is my jerkbrain being a jerk and it can go do one.

I have definitely been aware of you getting stuff done recently.

This is a whole load of stuff; I would say it definitely counts.

It seems like my brain doesn't feel like getting something done "counted" unless it meets a fairly specific and arbitrary criteria, mostly unrelated to how difficult or useful it was. I've narrowed that down by trial and error and try to do some of those things, but other stuff counts too!

In particular, I think several things on that list, especially wedding, travel planning, organising large events, new exertion targets, financial responsibilities, and commuting... OK, update, I think MOST things on that list are things most people might need to have their full attention on and couldn't manage significant attention elsewhere on top of that. So, um, that was a really productive time, wait, only a few weeks, ok that was a REALLY productive time, if everything else had to wait, that's because you physically couldn't have done any more whatever you did.

OK, let me start over. All that in a few weeks? Wow, that's a lot, well done, that's really impressive whether you have executive function problems or not, even if you often manage that amount of stuff! I think that's the limit of what I could cope with if all of them were things I was reasonably familiar with beforehand, and if not, I couldn't do it at all. I wish I had that level of organisation, even if you struggle in other ways. I hope things are a bit less busy in future, even if many of the things continue.

And bear that in mind when considering how your executive function is holding up.

Thank you! I'm glad. I think I should probably have *started* with the last paragraph, but I sort of got there as a slow realisation. I think when you've already taken on commitments, it feels like the time spent on them doesn't count somehow, you should be able to squeeze things in, when if someone asked in advance "can you do all these things at once" you might say, "no way, those all require several evenings a week or more, and I don't have that many!"

I hope things have got steadier since.

You organised an amazing thronescamp, which was clearly a large undertaking; than you.

That is an Impressive List of Things

I had a really fabulous Thronescamp, even without the gazillion other Cool Things on the list, I would still be counting your last month as a 'wow, Sebastian did A Excellent Thing.'

That is a massive load of things done. I strongly suspect your brain, like my brain, is doing the bastard self-deprecation thing and it can indeed go take a long walk out of a short air lock. You can't go with it though.

Seriously, I want to thank you for Thronescamp (again) because I have felt so buoyed by it. The days since have just been brighter, more optimistic and generally hopeful, probably down to the mix of lovely people and space to let myself stop and breathe. So thank you for that.

I have even been on three runs (sort of runs anyway) this week, grabbing the inspiration of the park runners rather than my usual being impressed but staying on the sofa. Not only are you doing all your stuff but you are being an inspiration to someone else. So there. :p

I am definitely enjoying it. We had discussed Zombies Run before and I have used it abortively in the past, so I have it lined up for the future. I have a personality quirk which means I'm more inclined to do something if I'm hearing about it, so I have cunningly stacked up a half dozen audiobooks by thirty somethings who took up running to get me moving - now it's becoming a habit I think ZR will keep me in good habits for the time being.

I ran my first 5k today, which suggests that my strength training has kept me vaguely capable, but I'm very encouraged by that. I think once Mark's ankle is better we will be looking at trying me at a Parkrun.
