Goals. January February March
Meta
I had started thinking that having finished Thronescamp and handed over some of my Church responsibilities I might have capacity to carefully take on some new projects, but I was already starting to feel that I was a bit less on top of wedding planning than I might like to be before I got the call offering me a surgery date, and now that I know I'm going to be pretty much out of action for a month or so whilst I recover, I'm feeling very glad that I didn't rush into anything!
Finances
I'm really not doing very well here. I said at the beginning of April that "even if I stick to my budget as planned for the whole month I'll still come in slightly over again." and I'm sure everyone will be astonished that I did not, in fact, stick to my planned budget, and ended up considerably more than a little bit over. One thing I need to be a little bit careful of is the whole "failing with abandon" thing, where I know that I'm going over budget, and so just shrug from then on, as though going £550 over is the same as going £50. On a related note, I think I also need to not worry too much about clawing back overspend from previous months. It'd be nice if I could, but if I try to restrict myself too much then it'll make me more likely to just say "Fuck it" and go over again, whereas keeping roughly to my monthly budget in future should be achievable. Having said all that, my planned spending in May is actually well under budget, because I'm expecting to spend half of it in bed...
Faith and Church
This month's update is quite similar to last's - I'm not necessarily meeting the specific goals, but my spiritual and church life is rich and growing in other ways, so I'm happy just letting the Spirit lead me where it will for now.
Health
Running is still going well. I did 128 miles in April, taking me to a total of 470 for the year so far, so well ahead of target. I only managed two Parkruns, missing one because I wasn't feeling it, and one because I had an appointment, so I'm now at 15/40 for the year, which is fine but doesn't give me a lot of leeway. I did try doing some chin-ups, and found that it exacerbated the upper back pain that I get periodically, so I think I should concentrate on improving my core first, by getting back into a regular pilates routine.
All this however, is going to have to go on the back burner fairly soon, as I'm going to have to be very careful not to over-exert myself after my surgery. My running goal for May is just 75 miles, which I plan to get through in the first 18 days of the month. After that I don't think I'll be doing any exercise at all for quite a while. I think I've got enough slack in the total miles target that I should still be able to manage that, but if I have to reduce the number of Parkruns then so be it. I shall try to volunteer at some once I'm recovered enough to do that, but not to run.
Hobbies
I'm still not doing as much music practice as I should, but I am still doing some, and have plans to keep making that happen. I've been writing quite a lot on Dreamwidth, and enjoying it, although it is quite time-consuming because I'm such a bloody perfectionist. I'm putting hosting any more readthroughs on hold until post surgery. I cooked five new recipes, so back to well ahead of target there. I saw one play, and have one in the diary for May. I did have another one in the diary for June, but it got cancelled by the theatre, and I'm going to have to see if I can rearrange it, and I'm co-ordinating dates for another one in July, plus planning something Very Exciting for August. I visited Cambridge for Easter, but still haven't put any dinner parties in the diary.
