Thank you to everyone who filled out the meta-poll last week. It looks as though whilst Saturday afternoon is good for quite a lot of people, there are a few whom it excludes completely, but there's a pretty strong preference for a regular slot, and no other time that looks better (and some fairly strong preference for weekends rather than weekdays), so as what I hope will be a reasonable compromise, from now on I'm going to alternate between Saturday and Sunday afternoons starting at 14:30.

This Sunday we'll do The White Devil, by John Webster, one of Shakespeare's contempories. The script is available from Project Gutenberg. This page has a couple of lines on each character, and this onehas links to rather more in depth analyses.

We'll be using Jitsi - the link to the room is https://8x8.vc/wildeabandon/sebastian.satkurunath and the passcode is the first five digits of pi (rounded up, just the numbers, ignoring the decimal point). The meeting room is permanently open, so you can check that you can log in ahead of time, but if you want to check that audio and video is working let me know and we can arrange a quick meeting.

I'll be doing the casting on Friday afternoon, so please respond to the poll and let me know any part preferences in the comments by then.

Ah! You also tracked down 8x8. I had been meaning to try it out. Did their version of Jitsi seem reliable?

Rounded UP?? :)

I mean, that's a lot more accurate for finding the area of things with, but now I suddenly realise how much time I've spent with people who want to calculate things about pi as an infinite series, and people who want to memorise digits of it, but I'm not sure I remember actually ever calculating the area of a circle more precisely than rounding pi to 3. Even in programming where "#define PI 3...." is a common example, I'm not sure if people remember to round accurately rather than just using the digits they remember... :)

Cool! OK, I may try using them in future rather than zoom or jit.si, thank you!

I have no idea what this play is about and would be happy to do anything.

I'll happily do anything, but I'd prefer a minor / smaller part or parts.

Predictably, I would like to play Flamineo, Vittoria or Lodovico. Of the smaller parts, maybe Zanche or Cornelia? Oh, and the Conjurer is fun.

I'd like to join in if possible & have no preferences re parts (but if you're oversubscribed with more frequent participants then don't worry!).

I read this play at school, so I feel I should have opinions about parts, but embarassingly I find I can barely remember it. I would like to place a villanous character, which as far as I recall is pretty much all of them, but particularly the Duke of Brachiano.

No particular part preference - happy to have a go and anything you think I'd suit.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, my preferences are Flamineo and Brachiano :)

Thank you as ever for organizing these. A question: my Dad has been reading my posts about readthroughs and he would really like to join in. May I invite him? Totally fine if you'd rather keep it to people you know personally - I might host an alternative readthrough for my family (and try to make sure it doesn't end up competing with yours).

I don't know the play at all, so whatever you think works - little part(s) are fine :)
