They sent me home from the hospital on Wednesday morning, although I still had a few tubes poking out of me, and wasn't feeling terribly mobile. I spent most of the afternoon either in bed or on the sofa, dozing, listening to audio books, and watching Netflix. The combination of a fair amount of discomfort and having dozed in the afternoon meant that I didn't get a very good night's sleep, so Thursday was a little bit of a struggle, but I did manage to get out for a couple of short walks around Cheshunt Park - about a mile each time.
Last night I slept considerably better, which is good, because this morning I had a job interview at nine. I felt a little bit daft sitting there with my top half in a suit and tie, and my bottom half in pyjamas and slippers and tubes of bodily fluids, but I guess that's just one of the advantages of our brave new video based world. I was reasonably happy with how the interview went - despite not feeling quite 100%, I felt like I gave decent answers to all the questions and really good ones to at least a couple of them.
Shortly afterwards I got a phone call from the surgeon to ask how much fluid had come out of me into the drain bottle, and being answered was happy to recommend that the drain come out. Unfortunately when the administrator called me back they wanted me to come in at 14.30, which clashed with my second interview of the day, and after a certain amount of faff trying to work out a time that would work for both me and then, the nurse just called me up and talked me through the procedure. It was one of those things that I found perfectly straightforward and basically painless, but nonetheless that I'm a bit surprised they were happy for me to do myself; I could imagine someone a bit more squeamish finding it quite difficult.
Having fewer tubes definitely meant I felt rather more comfortable for interview number two, which was for the spiritual direction course that I've mentioned previously. Unsurprisingly it was a very different sort of challenging to the job interview, but again I was reasonably happy with how it went. Afterwards I went for another walk, just under two miles this time. I got home, and having decided that that was quite enough achievement for a day when I'm still supposed to be recovering, settled down to binge some more Netflix. I didn't get very far however, before getting a phone call from the recruiter, to offer me the job, and whilst I was on the phone to him, an email from the course, offering me a place.
Definitely not too shabby for a rest day :D

Congrats on job and course!
