wildeabandon: A barbie doll with the text "Shopping is tedious... Let's do maths!" (maths)
Someone I follow on tumblr posted the following. My own maths is sufficiently rusty that I couldn't do it even if I had the time, but I thought maybe someone I know might be interested or know someone suitable.

"Do I know anyone who tutors maths at an undergraduate-ish level? (Or would do do currently due to being furloughed or whatever.) online tuition, rates to be agreed - a friend of mine wants to refresh theirselves with the basics before beginning a postgrad engineering program. They’re a ‘why’/theory level thinker and may benefit from learning from an Actual Maths Person more than most people in their position."

I do this! Hi, I'm Amy and I teach maths at Cambridge (and prior to that Oxford) for most of the last decade. I've currently got a couple of online private student going through courses like linear algebra, statistics, and analysis. I've taught pretty much all of first and second year Oxford maths, so can easily cover most starting undergraduate courses. If looking for more specialised material (I. E. 3rd year and masters), I am more aligned to the pure and statistics courses, with some random exceptions (mathematical biology is big and cool).
I also do a first tutorial for free so we can see if we will suit each other.
Drop me a line on amymariemason@gmail.com if you want to chat coz I don't check DW often enough 😁

(I have one student who is all about the why and from an engineering background already. It's been a fascinating learning curve, as his questions veer from incredibly basic to "that's a good point, I think we'd need to see if anyone has answered that in a PhD" deep and back)

Gareth of course does this - he's even been teaching PhD engineers relevant stuff. So you could email him.

Thanks for posting that - I might follow-up those leads, too.
