themidnightgirl and the_alchemist and their new puppy Florizel. It was very exciting. I have in the past thought of myself as not really a dog person, but I may have to revise that. There is something about the exuberance and excitement he shows in reaction to just about everything that brings my own delight in creation to the fore.
It was also wonderful to see the humans in person! We had a delicious brunch in their garden, including poached eggs from their own hens, which feels like a special treat. Then we took Florizel for a walk in the park, where he made friends with some other dogs, chased balls, and generally wore himself (and us!) out. Afterwards Zoë and I played a game of chess - my first on a real chessboard in many many years, which rather to my surprise I won (although I still maintain that although I was clearly ahead at the point she resigned, the chances of me managing to claw defeat from the jaws of victory had we continued were considerable).
