I gave myself permission to do the bare minimum I needed to do yesterday and spent quite a lot of it relaxing, which was a good plan, and I felt quite a lot better throughout the day. I still got a bit sad in the evening, and didn't sleep brilliantly, which led to a slow start this morning, but I'm starting to get things done.

I've got a week's holiday on my own booked from the 13th-20th of November, which isn't that long now, so if I can cling to that I should be able to get through the next month. I've booked a holiday cottage in Whitstable, on the basis that seaside towns are surprisingly cheap in November. I suspect I'm going to treat much of the week almost like a retreat, making lots of time for prayer and reading and journalling, but I should probably try to do some touristy things as well. Other than eating oysters and swimming in the sea (which might be a bit adventurous even for me at that time of year), what does one do in Whitstable?

I have no idea, but let me know when you find out!

[Wetsuits are great, BTW...]

Hmm, I am enjoying this list: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attractions-g503922-Activities-c61-Whitstable_Kent_England.html Jet skis!

Off-season seaside cottage is a great idea. There's similarly one in the Cornish village I once lived in, available year-round at notably variable prices. Yes, while I don't know the particulars of the SE, relax and pray some, explore some!

Read/watch Tipping the Velvet?
(Which is partially set there)

You are much braver than me - despite living by the sea I never swim in it - I'll maybe paddle a bit in August but only if I know I can grab a warm drink afterwards.

Hoping it's a restorative time away

holiday/retreat sounds like a really good plan.

Don't know Whitstable itself at all, but a few things I can think of in striking distance:
Sandwich - lovely medieval town, lots of interesting buildings
Rochester - less lovely medieval town, but fine castle, and what claims to be England's biggest second-hand bookshop (Baggins Books)
Margate Old Town - getting some good arty stuff, mainly due to Turner Contemporary
Reculver Castle - chunk of Roman stuff with good views
And Canterbury, of course...
