I have a long entry that I'm in the middle of writing about my recent retreat at St Beuno's, but it's taking a while to write, so I shouldn't let it stop me posting short things in between.

I cycled many many cycles this weekend. Yesterday I visited [personal profile] the_lady_lily for lunch, which was delightful and involved lots of narging about vocation and the CofE's discernment process and various related subjects. Her child is now a real person with opinions and a personality and stuff, which is slightly disconcerting, although also very charming. That was a shade over ten miles each way, which is about as far as I've ever cycled in one day before (at least in the last 25 years). So it was possibly slightly unwise to do that the day before I had planned an actual leisure bike ride with [personal profile] themidnightgirl today. We did a similar distance of just over twenty miles, but all in one go, and involving rather more vertical than travelling through London. My legs are very tired now, and I did have to get off and push briefly at one point, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I think we'll be doing quite a bit more of that in the future.

I also went to the GP earlier this week to say "I think I've got arthritis. Which is rubbish since I'm barely in my 40s, what can I do to retard its progress." And it turns out that what I actually have is trigger finger, which is easily treatable, so I'm feeling rather pleased, and also a bit daft for leaving it for months before going to the doctor because I was grumpy about having to admit to myself that I might be old enough to have arthritis.

Sounds like good cycling, but I'm inclined to agree that new personal best distances two days on the trot is a bit keen :-)

#infans has been quite the character for a few years now - he has the extreme eye rolling ability of [personal profile] the_lady_lily down pat :).

Oooh, I had a friend who had surgery for trigger finger in his 20s - it was done under local, and he was able to watch and have the workings pointed out to him, which apparently he really enjoyed. The treatment also seems to have properly long-term worked, too.

Oh, I'm glad your finger is easily treatable! And well done for all that cycling.

Horray for cycling and Good news about the finger... you may have inspired me to go to the dr about my suspected arthritis in my fingers and big toe. I'm not holding out much hope though. I feel old at 42.

Getting off and pushing is still cycling! I do it often!

I note that the bit you walked was a 12% gradient towards the end of our ride - 12% is nothing to be sniffed at.

https://www.strava.com/activities/6748759941 - we did 33km, with 445m of climbing.
