I slept very badly last night, so I think I'm going to wait until I've got a bit more brain before I try to post about the opera. I've also got an unusually full day of meetings today, which is a bit tedious, but possibly in some ways better than trying to solve tricky technical problems on minimal brain...
One of the things keeping me busy at the moment is that Mthr Alice has just gone on maternity leave, this time for a full year, although on the enormously positive side, the diocese are providing full time cover from the end of July, so it's only a fairly brief period of having to keep things going with a series of visiting priests. I don't think it's going to be an enormous burden, as Mthr has done a tremendous job of getting things set up and organised to run smoothly, but inevitably there are going to be a few things that need picking up in the coming weeks.
I did have a plan that I would step down as churchwarden at this year's APCM*, but despite continuing to claim that as my intention all the way up to the meeting, no-one else had stood forward as a potential candidate, so I agreed to stay on for another year. This really is my last year though, as there are term limits.
This week also marks a year since I started worshiping at St Luke's - although it really doesn't feel that long. I wasn't actually expecting to stay there for as long as I have, but since St John's moved our Mass to 9.00am I can in theory attend both churches, so it seems worth continuing. The relationship feels like one in which I am both receiving and giving in important ways, even if it occasionally feels a bit fraught - not because of anything I experience there, but because of how it interrelates with the way I react to changes in the wider church and world.
