Goals - November Update

I've been doing a bit of reflecting this month about what makes a good goal, and observed a couple of things. One is that it's generally better to have goals which are about processes rather than results, because the processes are less likely to be affected by things that I can't control. But the counterpoint is that much of what I actually want is the result, so I need to pay careful attention to whether the processes I'm setting as targets do actually move me closer to the results I want, and be willing to be flexible if not. One aspect where this has come into play is the music practice, where after deciding to relax the goal to include any music practice, I have been going for the thing that seems easy and fun rather than the thing that needs the most focus (although obviously doing enjoyable practice will make me improve much faster than /not doing/ hard practice that's not fun at all, so there's definitely a balance to be found somewhere).
I'm a bit behind on some of the ongoing goals, but I have completed or almost completed all of the "Do this one-off thing" ones, so I'm hoping that that will free up some time/energy/willpower to get caught up on the others next month. ( Read more... )
